The Archbishop of Canterbury
Blakeney Breakfast 9th November
We were honoured with a visit from the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby together with the Bishop of Norwich and the Bishop of Lynn at our Blakeney Breakfast at St Nicholas’ church on Friday 9th November. It was one venue on a three day tour of the Norwich Diocese by the Archbishop and he particularly wanted to be there when the schoolchildren were having breakfast before their daily lessons started. On arrival he met our volunteers and donned an apron and started helping out at table and taking orders. He then moved around the tables talking to the many people who had arrived to share in the meal. He was impressed by the outreach to the village that we are doing at St Nicholas’ church, what we are not sure of is whether he was aware that by the end of the morning we had served close on 250 breakfasts! After breakfast he walked down to the Quay accompanied by Bishops, Graham and Jonathan where he retraced some of his childhood memories of visits to Blakeney.
At the end of his three day visit he said “It’s been an extraordinary, profound and exhilarating three days in the Diocese of Norwich. I have been so encouraged by all the different ways the churches have been showing the love of Jesus Christ by reaching out and serving their communities.
This Diocese gives me hope for the church and for the world and I leave full of joy.
May the love of Jesus Christ continue to uphold and sustain you in all that you do.”
